Stars Reach Beginner Checklist

A practical day-one sequence from install to your first TPL trade meet.

How to use this checklist

Work top to bottom on launch day—or the night before Steam Early Access on August 18, 2026. Each block links deeper wiki pages so you are not reading everything twice. Skip cosmetics debates until the play loop works.

Stars Reach is an online sandbox MMO from Playable Worlds. Your goal on day one is competence and contacts, not perfect mastery of every skill tree.

Block 0 — Before you click Play

Block 1 — Tutorial through profession pick

  • Complete the short tutorial spine (doomed starbase style onboarding in modern builds)
  • When offered, choose a guided path unless you truly know the UI
  • Pick a starter package that matches your first two-hour fantasy
  • Write down which tools you received; those tools are your XP engines
  • Open K and locate your starting unlocks in the Skills Hub mental map

Profession reminder: kits are ramps. Intrepid Explorer scouts, Valiant Soldier escorts, Brainy Scientist refines and gadgets, Diligent Crafter produces, Peaceful Settler stages camps.

Block 2 — Haven fundamentals

  • Learn move, interact, holster/equip, and inventory right-click habits
  • Find where vendors and trainers cluster without emptying your wallet
  • Practice swapping to the tool you intend to train before leaving town
  • Set initial E/Q Specials once a Loadout Kiosk or safe-area swap is available
  • Do not assume you own every gathering tool—note what you must trade for

Block 3 — Earn the Crucible chapter

  • Finish Haven training goals / PIP-style gates that unlock Crucible access
  • Enter Crucible expecting hostility and rich resources, not a suburb
  • Stick with TPL helpers long enough to learn suit requirements for space
  • Accept Klaatu/XP awards as seed capital, not the whole economy
  • Plant or use a camp before long extraction loops; camps host kiosks and rest

Read planets and exploration if Pathfinder nodes confuse you.

Block 4 — First systems literacy

  • Open F1 and learn rarity labels on the Resource screen—resources and rarity
  • Log one rare and one common find; notice local abundance can disagree with rarity
  • Sample a craft or refine step before promising bulk goods to chat
  • Identify one export and one import for your next TPL visit—economy and trading
  • Screenshot or note a meetup spot your group will reuse

Block 5 — Reach TPL Starbase and socialize

  • Unlock space-suit access and travel to the TPL Starbase when ready
  • Retune loadouts at hub kiosks before the next planet hop
  • Trade for the tool your profession denied you on minute ten
  • Ask what your group still lacks instead of cloning five Soldiers
  • Bookmark Guides pages relevant to your role for night-two reading

Block 6 — Skills hygiene before you log out

  • Review which trees actually received XP (equipped tools only)
  • Enable the Specials you used most; disable fantasy sockets you never pressed
  • Decide what can atrophy next week if you pivot—respec in practice
  • Write a three-line plan: train X, buy Y, scout Z
  • Update friends on what you can supply tomorrow morning

Block 7 — Optional quality-of-life

  • Arrange voice chat that will not die when survey audio minigames matter
  • Create a shared doc for planet notes and rarity jackpots
  • Calibrate graphics so frame time stays stable on simulated terrain
  • Schedule a shorter second session instead of one exhausted eight-hour crash
  • Revisit the Tools Hub if a friend needs the pack or specs talk later

Day-one priority order when time is short

If you only have ninety minutes after download:

  1. Profession pick with the group
  2. Haven basics + first loadout
  3. Touch Crucible with a camp plan
  4. One F1 rarity check
  5. One trade or service swap at a hub

Everything else can wait for the Systems Hub deep dives.

Common day-one failures

  • Buying Cosmonaut, then never opening K
  • Wandering Crucible alone with default Specials
  • Ignoring F1 and crafting blind
  • Hoarding starter tools you never equip
  • Calling Early Access “broken forever” before reading patch notes

After the checklist

Loop back to skills and systems pages as your role stabilizes. The checklist’s job is sequencing, not replacing depth. When patches shuffle onboarding, adjust the blocks—but keep the spirit: prepare hardware, pick a kit, learn F1, camp on purpose, trade early, and manage practice slots like an adult.

You are ready when you can explain what you supply, what you need, and which tool will earn XP in the next session.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What should I do first on Stars Reach launch day?

Verify PC and pack choice, finish onboarding, pick a starter profession with your group, then learn loadouts and F1 before long Crucible runs.

Which wiki pages does this checklist assume?

It links Skills Hub pages (professions, trees, loadouts, atrophy), Systems pages (rarity, planets, economy), Guides, Early Access launch notes, and official links.

Do I need a full clear of every block?

No. If time is short, prioritize profession synergy, one safe loadout, a camp-aware Crucible touch, one rarity check, and one trade.

When should I worry about atrophy?

Not in the first hour. Review practice slots at the end of day one or when you intentionally pivot roles in week one.

Is this checklist valid after full release?

It is written for Early Access starting August 18, 2026. Re-verify steps when onboarding changes; do not treat it as a frozen 1.0 manual.
